Being a wedding and naming celebrant in Newcastle
I am a real romantic, there’s nothing I love more than a wedding. It started as far back as being a teenager, working in a fancy hotel where everyone in the town had their wedding.
All the other girls would be out the back having a cuppa, where as I’d be in the restaurant listening to the speeches and watching the happy couple’s day unfold. But it was my own wedding which got me seriously thinking about becoming a celebrant. My then fiance asked me what I wanted (after getting increasing frustrated by the wedding world) and I replied I wanted to have the wedding in my parents garden, in front of the the people we loved with a ceremony unique to us – and that’s what we did with a celebrant.
I’ve always loved the outdoors and adventure and having a cookie cutter wedding just wasn’t for us. The celebrant wrote a beautiful ceremony which really felt like ‘us’. People still talk about how memorable and unique our wedding was and it’s the celebrant we have to thank for that. As a celebrant it’s a privilege to help others have as special wedding day as we did.
Having recently entered the wonderful, crazy world of motherhood I’ve also witness many parents wishing they had an occasion to celebrate the birth of their child in a non-religious setting. It feels important to offer people the opportunity to tell their wonderful, unique, hilarious tales of their child’s journey and as a celebrant I will do it just the way you want to with a bespoke naming ceremonies.
For over 13 years I worked as an actor and facilitator in Newcastle and internationally, performing thousands of shows and workshops in all manner of locations to audiences big and small. Now I get to the celebrant, performing wedding and naming ceremonies for you, helping tell your unique story.
When I’m not chasing after a small child or being in the outdoors somewhere around Newcastle with family and pals you’ll find me at my kitchen table making somethings from cards to cake, costumes to sock monkeys. This desire to make something unique and one-off is another reason I love being a celebrant and I want to make your special day a one-off too.
Being from the North East is a big part of who I am and I feel lucky to be living in such a vibrant, warm city like Newcastle. It feels like we have it all living in Newcastle: the coast, the country, art, culture and with so many incredible venues to choose from you really are spoilt for choice.
Using a celebrant means you have the freedom to have your wedding or naming ceremony anywhere, not rules or restrictions, exactly the way you want it.
“Before the big day, Nancy met with me and my partner a couple of times to discuss details and she was available for support and open to suggestions. On the day of the ceremony she came prepared with copies for all the readings and she was a very genial and bright presence and conducted the ceremony with sensitivity and humour. She is very approachable and warm but that doesn’t detract from her professionalism. I would definitely recommend Nancy for your ceremony, she will help you have an unforgettable day!”
